About Us

Madeline's House can provide up to 33 beds for battered women and their children and is located in South Central Virginia. While services are concentrated in this area, no victim of domestic violence or sexual assault is turned away provided room is available.

• Madeline's House has trained staff on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through its HOTLINE 1-888-819-2926
• Can provide emergency transportation to the shelter
• Provides personalized case management to each resident entering the shelter, as well as to community clients
• Assures the availability of individual counseling for each resident
• Holds regular support groups for residents on topics from personal growth to basic life and job skills
• Sponsors community support groups in confidential locations/li>
• Assists residents in obtaining legal service and provides court advocacy
• Ensures transportation to necessary appointments such as health care, counseling, social service, and court mandated appointments.
• Educates residents about issues of domestic violence and sexual assault, and about the other community resources available to them
• Assists with job searches and job seeking skills
• Provides 30 day follow-up care to departing residents and
• Works continually to provide community education and information about the issues of domestic violence and sexual assault
• Has provided over 4,800 bed nights since 1999 to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Serving the Southside Virginia Counties of:

Prince Edward, Nottoway, Lunenburg, and Mecklenburg as well as the contiguous counties of Amelia, Burnswick, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Dinwiddie, Halifax, and Powhatan. However, Madeline's House works with shelters in all states that need to make a referral to us for the safety of their client.
